Services for Sigal Marie Burdine Bond Kavanaugh Ory, age 88 was held Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 11:00A.M. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA. Internment followed at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston.

Born September 14, 1922 in Spring Hill, LA and died June 6, 2011 in Ruston, LA. She was preceded in death by the father of her children, Newton H. Kavanaugh and her second husband, Paul Richard Ory.

Sigal attended Hillcrest Elementary and A. E. Phillips High School where she met her future sister-in-law, Linda Kavanaugh Rolf.

Sigal operated the general store she and Newt owned in Clay, LA until she learned the florist trade under the tutelage of Louis Carter. She worked at the flower shop in Monroe, LA and at Bessies in Ruston, LA until she purchased that shop. Later she moved to the Baton Rouge, LA area and worked for the LA Tourist Commission. There she made contacts that led her to Meadwood, Laura and finally Oak Alley Plantations where she worked as a hostess/assistant and met Paul Ory, retired farm manager. She also worked for the LA Dept. of Corrections in St. Gabriel where she supervised trustee inmates in landscaping the grounds.

Sigal never met a stranger and opened her heart, home and table to all. She loved people and she loved doing things with unbelievable talents for all kinds of projects. When she returned to Ruston, she worked for the city in landscaping/green thumb areas and may be remembered for “digging in the dirt”.

She is survived by her daughter, Lou Taylor of Ruston, her son Track Kavanaugh and his wife, Faye of Ruston and her son, John Raymond Kavanaugh also of Ruston, granddaughter, Mary Lou K.Oswalt and her husband Brian and great granddaughter, Trystyn: grandson, John Kavanaugh and wife, Rebecca and great granddaughter, Hannah and great grandson, Ethan, as well as granddaughter, Christen Kavanaugh.

Pallbearers were Jerry Grigsby, Richard Christian, Phil Gordon, Gary Bullock and Jay Kavanaugh.
